Donate Big Items

A few years ago, a couple I know gave a car donation to a local charity. I didn't know you could do things like that until they did it. I was impressed that they would do such a thing, rather than trade the car in toward the new one they were getting. To them, it was better to donate this older car to someone who might be without a vehicle, than to trade it in. Besides, the trade in value of the car was very low. Since their donation, I have seen many charities like this pop up. Car Angel is just one example.

Car Angel is a non-profit organization that takes car, boat, house, or RV donations. They use the donations to help people in need, by giving them these items. This organization also takes monetary donations and with those, they create children's videos and anti-drug videos like this one. To date, they have given away over 2.4 million videos.

To donate is the easy part. Do you have an old car sitting around collecting rust? Car Angel will come and pick it up whether it's running or not. Some restrictions apply among the various companies who do this kind of thing. In return for your donation, you will receive a receipt that you can use to file the deduction on your taxes. It is a wonderful way to give something that can really benefit someone who is going through a rough patch and can't afford a car. I've known many people over the years who have been in this position and they would have been so thankful for a car donation. So if you have an old car sitting around, before you just let it sit there, think about donating it. It will make such a difference to the person who receives it.
